BNB Chain Expands Layer 2 Ecosystem with Innovative Aggregation Service

The BNB Chain, powered by the BNB token, has unveiled a service solution aimed at fostering the development of Layer 2 blockchain networks within its ecosystem. On March 14th, BNB Chain announced its collection as a Service (RaaS) initiative, designed to assist projects in building Layer 2 networks on the BNB Chain. This service grants projects access to the necessary technical infrastructure for deploying Layer 2 networks on the blockchain, thereby expanding the BNB Chain ecosystem.

Furthermore, BNB Chain elaborated that this service supports decentralized applications (DApps), enabling a wide range of vertical projects, including blockchain gaming or decentralized finance (DeFi), to be deployed on Layer 2 networks. In addition, BNB Chain also provides collection management support and a no-code deployment option for projects that may not be familiar with coding. The BNB Chain team explained that the Layer 2 networks created via the BNB Chain’s RaaS service are built on the BNB Smart Chain (BSC), which they describe as the foundational Layer 1 blockchain and governance chain.

According to the BNB Chain core development team, this new service follows their goal of supporting widespread adoption of Web3 technology. They stated, “With the combined power of RaaS and our ecosystem’s connectivity capabilities, developers will have a comprehensive toolkit for creating efficient and scalable Layer 2s on BSC.” The BNB Chain has been channeling its efforts into Layer 2 networks since 2023. On June 20th, it introduced its Layer 2 scaling solution opBNB, based on the Optimism OP Stack, in a testnet environment. This Layer 2 solution is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), meaning it works with Ethereum-based smart contracts and token standards.

On September 13th, the scaling platform was deployed on a mainnet, making opBNB available to the public following a testing phase. The BNB Chain reported managing over 35 million transactions and 150 DApps deployed on its testnet. The project also claimed that the opBNB platform reached 4,000 transactions per second (TPS) during stress testing. According to BNB Chain, this new collection service is part of its efforts to achieve the objectives it set earlier this year. On January 31st, the company published its BNB Chain 2024 Outlook, introducing the concept of One BNB Connection, which links BSC with its decentralized storage service, BNB Greenfield.
