Malaysia Raids 33 Bitcoin Mining Premises Suspected of Stealing Power

Bitcoin Mining MalaysiaTenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) raided 33 premises around Kuantan associated with meddling with the power distribution  board in a bitcoin mining activity, bringing about lost RM3.2 million to the service organization.

General administrator metering, disseminating system, Siti Sarah Johana Mohd said examinations demonstrated the premises had been mining Bitcoin for a half year.

“TNB collected evidence that 23 premises were running bitcoin mining activities while the other 10 premises were aware of our raid this time around and destroyed the evidence,” she told reporters at Wisma TNB.

The attacks, which started at 10.30am, included 30 exceptional colleagues and five work force from the TNB Security Service Department who had a court order issued by the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court.

“The metered 3 Amp was used only for one lamp and a suction fan. They paid a bill of only RM219 whereas they should have been billed RM108,000 a month for the unmetered 1,500 Amp,” she said, adding the account holder would have to pay the arrears in the bill.

She noticed that the Energy Commission has encouraged premises proprietors to know about such exercises going on in their premises and move the record to the inhabitant’s name.
